the rite of spring listening guide
leonard bernstein w/ new york philharmonic (1958)

this is my personal listening guide to stravinsky's rite of spring, originally conceived as just a youtube comment on the video above pointing out all of my favorite moments. you can click a timestamp to jump directly to that point in the video.

some of the notes reference the plot or choreography of the actual ballet. though the rite is often performed as a concert work, i also highly recommend watching a performance of the ballet with the original choreography at some point!

i wrote this guide to be informal and approachable, especially for my friends and for people who are not classical music fans. if you are looking for a more formal analysis, this may not be for you. however, clicking a timestamp will reveal more detailed notes, which may be a little more 'academic'.

either way, i hope you enjoy! <3
